Targeted therapy in esophageal cancer

چکیده
: Esophageal cancer consists of two distinct histological types, esophageal squamous cell-carcinoma (ESCC) and adenocarcinoma (EAC). carcinoma is a grave malignancy with regards to prognosis mortality. ESCC remains the dominant type worldwide, about 90 percent all cases worldwide. However, EAC now much more common in United States Western World, represents one fastest growing cancers there. Despite significant progress multimodality treatment options, overall poor, 5-year survival rates for all-comers are still below 20 percent. Although initially responds well systemic therapy, most patients recur eventually die from their disease. Therefore, new options urgently needed. The combination traditional therapy biologicals and/or targeted agents these options. Some already approved, while others currently undergoing clinical trials. These therapies have emerged as an important tool many different including cancer. Herein, we review recent literature ongoing trials therapies, discuss pathways. Currently, treated chemotherapies like taxanes (paclitaxel, docetaxel), platinums (carboplatin, cisplatin), anthracyclines (doxorubicin, epirubicin) or pyrimidine analogs (5-fluorouracil). Future strategies should be based on molecular features each patient’s individual tumor, include biologicals/targeted tailored specific findings.

متن کامل“Targeted” Chemotherapy for Esophageal Cancer
Citation: Abdo J, Agrawal DK and Mittal SK (2017) " Targeted " Chemotherapy for Esophageal Cancer. Due to its increasing incidence and low survival rate, esophageal cancer (EC) is now considered, even by non-medical professionals, as an extremely difficult cancer to beat akin to well-known terminal indications such as pancreatic and lung cancers. The average 5-year survival of EC is less than 1...
متن کاملEsophageal Cancer Radiation Therapy
Esophageal cancer often is asymptomatic until it has advanced or metastasized to distant organs, limiting treatment options. The 2 most common forms are squamous cell carcinomas that appear in the upper or midesophagus and esophageal adenocarcinomas that tend to occur lower in the esophagus or at the gastroesophageal junction. Since the 1980s higher rates of esophageal adenocarcinomas have been...
متن کاملTargeted Therapy in Breast Cancer.
Currently targeted drug selection in breast cancer is exclusively based on estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PgR) and human epidermal growth factor receptor (HER2) expression mainly of the primary tumor, even if metastatic disease is actually treated. Retrospective data indicate discordance regarding those factors between primary tumors and corresponding metastatic lesions in up to...
متن کاملTargeted Therapy in Ovarian Cancer
Ovarian cancer is the most common cause of mortality of tumors from gynecologic origin and is often diagnosed after patients have already progressed to advanced disease stage. The current standard of care for treatment of ovarian cancer includes cytoreductive surgery followed by adjuvant chemotherapy. Unfortunately, many patients will recur and ultimately die from their disease. Targeted therap...
